With close to 1,000 koalas in the Port Macquarie region and 8,000 across NSW perishing in the bushfires of 2019-2020, caring for injured and sick koalas, and conducting research and education, has become even more critical. All of these activities cost the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital money.
In NSW, the Return and Earn scheme can be found at over 600 locations. Members of the public can deposit eligible drink containers and earn 10 cents a container which they can then donate.
Since the scheme launched in 2017, over 2 billion containers have been collected which helps reduce litter and helps the environment.
