The Yarras resident said the award was the last thing she expected.
Phyllis received the Port Macquarie-Hastings Australia Day Senior Citizen of the Year Award during an official ceremony at the Glasshouse.
Countless groups have benefited from Phyllis' volunteer efforts including the Upper Hastings Sporting Group, Hastings Country Music Club, St Cuthbert's Anglican Church, Long Flat Football Club, Yarras School, Long Flat rodeo, Ellenborough Hall, Long Flat School and many more.
Phyllis, along with her husband Reg, began helping as distributors for Dominion Grace Women's Ministry after the devastating bushfires and drought.
Homes were lost in the fires as well as sheds, cattle, fences and feed for livestock.
Phyllis and Reg have distributed donations from clothes to household goods to people doing it tough as far afield as Doyles River, Birdwood and Yarras mountain.
"When they come in, their hearts are broken," Phyllis said about those who have received help.
"It's emotional but you just feel so good you are helping others."
The couple has ensured those in need living in out of the way places aren't forgotten.
The donations through Dominion Grace Women's Ministry have provided a boost to people hard hit not only by the fires and drought but also floods and poverty.
Phyllis is following in her late mother's footsteps of helping others.
"I just like to help - it's in my nature," she said.
Phyllis' Senior Citizen of the Year certificate will take pride of place alongside the Citizen of the Year certificate awarded to her mother Alma Kennett in 1999.
Phyllis recognised the support of her husband Reg.
