Marine Rescue Port Macquarie organised Hastings Summer Waves at Westport Park after receiving a community grant from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Marine Rescue Port Macquarie unit commander Greg Davies said the feedback from the event had been positive.
"The preparation and planning that went into it by the members made the day work well," he said.
"We are proud and honoured to do something for the community good."
The gated COVID-safe event included market stalls, food stalls and ticketed live entertainment.
Mr Davies said he appreciated the teamwork and willingness of the members to be part of the community.
The volunteer group hopes the council will give it the opportunity to stage an Australia Day event again next year.
