Clean-up work continues after region experiences a drenching

Minor flooding impacted low-lying areas, cutting off some bridges and roadways, and dumped debris on Town Beach during the height of the holiday season.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council received a number of requests for assistance with debris removal, road damage and stormwater issues following the wet weather.

Council teams are supporting the SES in response and recovery to storms.

They are scheduling works to assess, clean and repair issues across the region.

The council appreciates the community's assistance in identifying issues and people's patience while it attends to these as quickly as possible.

Council's director of infrastructure Dan Bylsma said it had been a challenging two weeks of storm response with bursts of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms causing havoc across our local government area that was bustling with holiday makers and tourists.

"I must commend the community's patience while we are attending to high priority road, stormwater and waste water issues and hope we can return our beaches, reserves and foreshores to their peak condition as soon as possible," he said.

"I would like to thank our PMHC staff, particularly our operational teams, many who have not had much downtime over Christmas, for their collective efforts in responding at all hours to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community."

Port Macquarie received just over 150mm of rain from January 1 until Thursday morning (January 7) .

In comparison, 355mm fell at Mount Seaview over the same period.

A shower or two is predicted each day in Port Macquarie from Friday to Sunday, a possible shower is expected on Monday and Tuesday is shaping up as mostly sunny.
