The program provides a financial boost of up to $5000 for events that have the potential to attract visitors to the Port Macquarie-Hastings region, generate destination exposure, and create a notable digital reach.
The funds are to help event organisers with marketing to attract visitors from outside the region, and to sustain local events long-term.
Group manager Liesa Davies expressed her support for the industry, following the challenges faced during the last 12 months.
"Events are so important to our local economy as they increase awareness of all the great things our region has to offer, encourage visitor spending, and they bring the community together."
"Event organisers have had to innovate and adapt to COVID-safe formats, and council will continue to work with and support events as they add so much value to our community," she said.
Port Macquarie Bodyboarding Association's Carissa Dwyer acknowledged the program's help through COVID's challenges for this year's David 'Goose' Gosby Memorial event.
"Despite the challenges and restrictions that COVID placed not only on our event but our club as a whole, this year's memorial event was one of the club's most successful," Ms Dwyer said.
Jenny Higgins from the Flamin' Dragons Port Macquarie said they were extremely lucky to receive a $5000 grant through Round 1, for their 2021 Annual Dragon Boat Regatta, at Rocks Ferry Reserve, Wauchope, on the June long weekend.
"Our event attracts clubs and paddlers from all parts of NSW, and will hopefully entice them to enjoy the freedom of travelling and paddling again. We anticipate competitors will stay three days over the long weekend," Ms Higgins said.
Applications are open until Friday, February 19, 2021, pmhc.nsw.gov.au/event-sponsorship or call council on 6581 8111.
