The school community welcomed Mr Harris in 2015. He is now preparing to embark on a new chapter with the Department of Education in 2021.

Mr Harris has accepted a position of Principal, School Leadership and will work closely with other school principals and local directors.

This is a strategic position within the department, working closely with schools to support and improve student outcomes, growth, positive change and support the strategic goals of the department.

"These positions are strategically allocated all around NSW to ensure this support is equitable to all schools," Mr Harris said.

The school is busy coordinating a handover to the incoming principal who is yet to be appointed.

Mr Harris said he can't believe how fast the last five years has gone since moving to the region from Sydney with his family.

He said he is honoured to be part of the Tacking Point community and the associated history of the school.

Many positive initiatives have occurred over this time and he is proud to be part of them.

"It's about making a difference and that has been achieved," he said.

Mr Harris said it has been a pleasure working with the local principals who are committed to best practice and enriching children's lives.

Mr Harris said he is particularly proud of the school's journey with STEM and being identified as a STEM Action School, as well as its continued success with Tournament of Minds.

With a background in gifted and talented education, Mr Harris said it has been great to endorse and support these projects to cater for differentiated learning.

During his time, the school has enjoyed an upgraded technology plan with computers, ipads, upgraded wifi, interactive white boards and the introduction of Sentral for streamlined school communication.

Mr Harris has also driven a number of upgrades in the school from technology, the school library, the hall, classrooms, school painting and the updated administration block.

"I love the sound of laughter from our children and the innocence that children have," he said.

"In this day and age, it's about keeping the joy and innocence of childhood as long as you can.

"It will be a difficult goodbye with mixed emotions.

"I now get to truly have my parent hat on with my two boys still at Tacking Point."
