Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce president Michael Mowle said the FlyPelican service linking Port Macquarie and Canberra would be of great benefit to our area.
Regional airline FlyPelican will offer direct flights every Thursday and Sunday afternoon from November 1 as the airline grows its network.
Mr Mowle said the Canberra flights would allow us to tap into another market for tourism and other business opportunities.
He said in the property sector, we already saw inbound migration from Canberra, so this was the next logical progression and strengthened our appeal as a major regional centre in NSW.
"Congratulations to FlyPelican for showing their faith in Port as a key regional destination," Mr Mowle said.

Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association president Janette Hyde also welcomed the flights linking Port Macquarie and the nation's capital.
Mrs Hyde said the flights would offer the opportunity, for example, for Canberrans to have a weekend away filled with wineries and cafes.
"I can see it being a weekend stay for people from Canberra," she said.
Mrs Hyde said residents from our region would be able to fly directly to Canberra to visit its exhibitions and attractions.
Mayor Peta Pinson said the direct flights would also open up a new market in which to promote our area.
"It opens up so many opportunities," she said.
Port Macquarie will be the ninth destination added to the FlyPelican network and its third destination from Canberra Airport.
