A land and sea search at Lighthouse Beach and north to Shelly Beach began on Saturday morning (September 19) after concerns were raised for the welfare of 56-year-old Mark James.
Mid North Coast Police District Chief Inspector Mick Aldridge has set up a command centre at Tacking Point Surf Life Saving Club while State Emergency Service crews scour the surrounding bushland.
Mr James was last seen at his home in the Settlement Point area at 7pm on Friday night (September 18).
His vehicle, a red Toyota RAV 4, was located by family at 7am Saturday but Mr James was not with it.
Chief Insp Aldridge said there are concerns for Mr James' welfare and police are urging anyone who has had contact with him since 7pm Friday night to notify police.
The search has continued throughout Saturday in the bushland around the lighthouse, south to Watonga rocks and north into Sea Acres reserve and Shelly Beach.
ALS Lifeguards and Surf Life Saving NSW assisted on the water with IRBs and jet skis.
The beach will remain closed while the search continues.
Chief Insp Aldridge said the search, which was suspended at 5pm, will resume on Sunday with the assistance from Water Police from Coffs Harbour.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Port Macquarie Police on 6583 0199.
