A correctional officer will face court today (August 17) following an investigation into the alleged smuggling of contraband into a correctional facility at Kempsey.

In June, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit (CSIU), commenced an investigation following reports a male correctional officer was attempting introduce contraband into the facility where he worked.
About 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 10, detectives attended a correctional facility at West Kempsey and spoke with a 32-year-old man.
Following further inquiries, the man was charged with unlawfully bring or attempt to bring anything into place of detention.
The man was issued with a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Kempsey Local Court.
The probationary correctional officer is currently suspended from duty.
The Robbery and Serious Crime Squads Corrective Services Investigations Unit (CSIU), works closely with Corrective Services NSW to investigate matters of corruption and other illegal activity in NSW correctional facilities.
