The Bangalay Drive school will welcome a school crossing supervisor as the next term starts.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said Tacking Point Public School was one of 80 schools across the state preparing to welcome a new school crossing supervisor as part of the state government's plan to fast-track the appointment of 300 new school crossing supervisors within three years.
Tacking Point Public School has 715 students.
The school's deputy principal, Kelly Jordan, said the P&C had been integral in the push for a school crossing supervisor for the safety of all students.
"It is going to give us a little bit more peace of mind in the sense we know when the children are crossing the road that the traffic is definitely going to stop because somebody will be there making it happen," she said.
The school has strong teachings around road safety.
"We have over 500 families moving in and out of the school setting every day so you can imagine the traffic," Mrs Jordan said.
She said the school was located in a residential area so it was extremely busy.
Mrs Jordan said the school really appreciated the school crossing supervisor measure for the safety of children and the community.
Recruitment is underway to fill the school crossing supervisor role.
Mrs Williams said student safety was of paramount importance.
She said Tacking Point Public School was quite a large school on a fairly busy main road.
"The new crossing supervisor will monitor children at the crossing in Bangalay Drive as they walk to and from school and will be the first supervisor at the school," Mrs Williams said.
"We look forward to welcoming our new school crossing supervisor over the coming months as they join more than 1200 others across the state helping to keep primary school students safe."
Westport Public School also has a school crossing supervisor.
