MOUNTAIN bike racing looms as potentially the only sport with a clear indication of what their future holds with the ever-evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

Hastings Valley Mountain Bike Riders, Port Macquarie club member Mick Fullbrook said they had tentatively pencilled in August 8 and 9 as their next race day around Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park.
"Because MTB has been allowed, there was a series at Awaba in Newcastle last week which went ahead over two days," he said.
"We'll adapt the same thing for the next round on August 8 and 9 as well as the week after that which will be a cross-country series involving a 10-kilometre loop."
That race will either be run over a two-hour or four-hour period.
Following that, on September 18 riders from schools around the North Coast will take part in the XCO Coastal Series where a gravity enduro race will be held on the Sunday.
"We will still have to abide by COVID restrictions and only have 200 riders a day, but we're lucky at Jolly Nose where all the runs are separate.
"In the cross-country races we'll probably change the setup so no-one can come into the carpark."
Fullbrook admitted the pandemic had made things difficult for the club, but they were confident the races will be able to go ahead.
"It has been hard for us because we've made no coin and still have to pay for permits, but the boys seem confident about the races," he said.
