Council has worked in close partnership with pool manager's BlueFit to ensure the pool can remain open, while continuing to operate under the current NSW Government guidelines.
Group manager Liam Bulley said the pool was closed for eight weeks as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Whilst it was disappointing we could not keep the pool open due to COVID-19, it did mean we were able to undertake preventative maintenance that would normally occur when the pool is closed in July," Mr Bulley said.
"It has been really encouraging to see swimmers returning since the pool re-opened in mid-May, and while there have been strict conditions in place, more than 4,000 bookings have been made.
"Continuing to provide access to the pool is important in enhancing the health and wellbeing of our community, and we are pleased to be able to provide ongoing access during July and the following months."
The pool will continue to operate under current NSW Government guidelines with only lap swimming taking place at this stage. Bookings are essential.
CEO of BlueFit Group, Todd McHardy, said in a world where services are having to be cut, the extension of the Port Macquarie Swimming Pool through the month of July is great news.
"We fully support council's decision to have this service available to the community, and we have been allowing one swimmer per lane, however this is now extended to three," Mr McHardy said.
"We encourage residents to jump online, book a swim and get active, and we're aiming to have Learn to Swim back on Monday 24 August."
Those wishing to go for a swim will need to continue to pre-book at pmhpools.com.au.
