In addition to the new crossing, stormwater upgrades have taken place, new garden beds constructed, there's new kerb and guttering, in-ground water services have been replaced, and new exposed concrete footpaths make it a smooth surface for all.
Still to come on the project is new street lighting, landscaping and line marking which will be happening in the next few weeks.
The placement of the crossing between Seymour and Tunis Streets caused a significant amount of community angst with a petition of more than 600 signatures presented to council in May 2019 over its proposed original location.
Following feedback from the community regarding the proposed location of the pedestrian crossing, council resolved at its meeting in September 2019 to move the crossing to the northern end of Bold Street between the Coles exit and Tunis Street, adjacent to the pharmacy.
The $570,000 project was funded by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and through a NSW Government contribution of $347,000 under the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
