Around 50 millimetres of rain fell on the North Coast circuit in the days preceding the program culminating in heavy showers on Friday forcing the course into the heavy range.
Concerns were expressed for the section of the track from the 600 metres to the home straight with Mid North Coast chief steward, Jack Penfold, postponing the meeting following the galloping of horses over the affected area on race morning.
With the threat of further downpours of around 40 millimetres predicted to affect the conduct of the card throughout the afternoon, the decision was taken philosophically from all racing officials and enthusiasts.
The continued threat of Coronavirus has affected every area of society and all in the district have worked exceptionally hard to provide the continued protocols required for the successful conduct of the program, so it is disappointing that rain has dampened the local industry.
Racing supports thousands of people throughout the country and the meetings provide the continued financial injection required at a time when so many are out of work and suffering enormously.
The club would like to thank McGuigan BMW and John Oxley Motors for their continued support and it is hoped they will be part of local racing for many years to come when things go back to some form of relative normality.
The next scheduled fixture to be conducted is on April 11 with the Port Macquarie Race Club greatly appreciative of continued understanding provided by all racing participants and supporters at this most difficult time.
