The region was set to host the explosive, high adrenaline action sports spectacular starring the best athletes in FMX, BMX, Skate and Scooter on March 21 until organisers were left with no choice than to postpone it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The troupe's Australia/New Zealand marketing director Nathan Brown said Port Macquarie then held off Sunshine Coast to win the rights to host the event next year.
The Port Macquarie show is one of 37 they had to postpone across three continents.
"It was one piece of a very complicated jigsaw puzzle," Brown said.
"The North American tour which was due to start in April is now happening in September, but Port will be the first of the Australian stops.
"There are four Australian stops that are being rescheduled so it will be the first show in Australia in 2021."
The new date will slot in after their New Zealand tour at the beginning of February.
"Because it's an outdoor tour, Australia is pretty tricky in that we've only got a three-month window which is basically February, March and April," Brown said.
"We already had New Zealand scheduled for February next year so we couldn't move that whole tour so February 27 was the first date we could get in Australia."
A calendar reschedule "en masse" was something they had never dealt with before and Brown said Port Macquarie-Hastings Council had "moved heaven and earth" to help secure the new date.
"That's a good snapshot of how the Port Macquarie market has supported this show and our event so we're excited to give back to them in February," he said.
"We wanted to give back to a community that has given a lot to us so we're excited to be back and this was an important one for us not to cancel and to reschedule."
The most Nitro Circus has ever had to do previously is reschedule a show for 24 hours because of weather conditions.
"To do this en masse dealing with something we have no clue about - and we know action sports is so small in comparison to the greater concern of what's going on with the coronavirus and everything else," Brown said.
"We wanted to do this this week for a feelgood story in a very uncertain time around the world and locally."
Tickets to the 2020 event will be eligible for use in the 2021 event, however Brown said refunds would also be available should the new date not be suitable.
"If the circumstances don't allow them to come to the next date they are 100 percent entitled to a refund and ticketmaster will be in contact with them if that's the course of action they decide to take," he said.
"We hope they can wait; we're just as upset we have to wait 12 months to perform here."
