We have three fantastic libraries across our region, in Laurieton, Port Macquarie and Wauchope. The library service is part of the Mid North Coast Library Cooperative, a partnership with Kempsey Shire Libraries.
This month we're celebrating the 20th birthday of the Port Macquarie Library at its Grant Street location.
Our libraries have certainly changed over the last 20 years.
They now offer so much more than just books.
Who would have imagined 20 years ago that you could go to the library to search the internet, join a ukulele group, produce a music video and experience virtual reality ... plus so much more?
You might be interested to know that more than 700,000 books are borrowed from our three libraries each year - that's a lot of books.
Can you imagine the wonderful experiences the words in these books bring. Young, old and in between, there is definitely a book for you.
Also, did you know the Port Macquarie Library has the biggest 'large-print' book collection in NSW?
A huge thanks must go to our amazing library staff who work day in day out assisting borrowers and library-goers to make the library experience second to none.
If you are not a member of one of our libraries, it is so simple to become one. Take a trip to your nearest library and sign up for free.
In celebration of the Port Macquarie Library being at Grant Street for 20 years, this Saturday, March 14, between 9am and noon, we're holding a special birthday celebration.
Come join us for a fun-filled morning and discover everything there is to offer.
There'll be entertainment, face painting, giant games, a jumping castle, craft, the Big Book Swap, and of course cake!
You might even bump into our resident rapper, Library manager Jim-illa Ice, and the Dancing Librarian will also be there, ready to show you some moves.
Happy Birthday to our Port Macquarie Library and congratulations to the Library Team.
Hip hip hooray!
