Groups of six to eight students raced around the town completing challenges within the one hour time limit on Thursday, February 28.
Teams officially started the race at CSU student central and performed tasks listed on the Goosechase scavenger hunt app. This is the first year the race has not been recorded on paper.
CSU student coordinator Karen Bray said winning teams received goodie bags sponsored by vendors in town.
"The 20 challenges are split between trivia knowledge and physical challenges. The results are recorded in the app," she said before the event.
"One of the challenges is going to the Glasshouse and performing a small play. Teams must also go to headspace Port Macquarie and write a message on the wall.
"They have to go to Majestic Cinemas and take a photo with one of the movie posters. They can also take pictures with koala sculptures along the way.
"During the hour they complete and log the challenges."
The Amazing Race Around Port Macquarie is part of 'O-Week' celebrations to welcome new students to Port Macquarie.
Other events include a market day, river cruise, learn-to-surf lesson, paintball, beach games, ten pin bowling, Indigenous and international student support sessions.
