The year seven student at Heritage Christain School has accumulated more than 30 cms of growth over the last three years.
The 12-year-old has also raised more than $600 to help beat blood cancer and will have the big chop at McInherney Park in Port Macquarie on March 15.
"The aim is to raise money for Leukaemia and blood cancer research. I got the idea from a teacher at school and decided it would be a good idea to give it a shot," said Huntar.
"Usually when I play football I have it braided or have it in a topknot so it doesn't get in my face. I like my long hair but I think it's time to have it cut.
"Sometimes people comment that it's a cool hairstyle, but usually people mistake me for a girl.
"I've been growing my hair for about three years so I'm a bit anxious (about having it cut).
"Mick Day from East Coast Futsal Academy has taught me that there's nothing I can't do and I've had heaps of support from family and friends."
Huntar's cousin and local hairdresser of 10 years, Sophie Cook will be delivering the final cutting of hair.
"A lot of boys do have long hair these days and there are more styling options for boys with long hair at the moment," she said.
"Having long hair can be a lot of work in maintaining hair at that length with brushing and keeping it neat.
"I think what Huntar is doing is great and pretty brave. Considering he has had long hair for such a long time it is very brave."
Every 41 minutes an Australian is diagnosed with a blood cancer and every two hours an Australian loses their life to that diagnosis.
