Port Macquarie Kart Racing Club submitted a development application on February 6 for a professional driver and rider training centre at Burrawan Forest Drive for motor vehicles and motorcycles.
If successful the DA would allow learner drivers, aged drivers pre-testing and caravan or trailer maneuvering training on the track from 6am to 8pm during daylight hours.
The application is currently on exhibition until March 3.
Club president Jamie Barnes said he welcomed the chance for neighbouring properties to make their wishes known and get the project running before term two of school.
"I would really like to see learner drivers on there in March," he said.
The application outlines potential benefits including the provision of a safe driver training area for the community and bringing financial benefit to small businesses (instructors).
Areas being notified for feedback by council include 12 properties in Herons Creek and Lake Innes.
The club met with neighbours on January 28. Representatives from the nearby Port Macquarie Cycle Club and Hasting Valley Archery Club were in attendance.
Driving instructors have expressed interest in using the venue as a safe haven for learner drivers, depending on affordability.
Meanwhile, NSW Supermoto Riders Club is hosting a Ride and Race event at the Port Macquarie track from Saturday, February 29 to Sunday, March 1.
Riders travel from Sydney and interstate for eight approved motorcycle events at the track each year.
