About 1pm on Tuesday, February 18, police attended a home on Boonamin Road, Port Macquarie, after reports a man had absconded from hospital.
Officers from Mid North Coast Police District were allegedly confronted by a 35-year-old man who threatened to stab them, before fleeing the scene.
About 7.30pm, police were called to the same location after the man allegedly returned and caused significant damage to the property, before again leaving the scene.
A short time later, officers again attended the property. They saw the man leaving in a car and initiated a pursuit on Ocean Drive, towards Lake Cathie.
"During the pursuit, the man allegedly drove towards police and rammed one of their vehicles, before fleeing the scene on foot," a NSW Police spokesperson said.
Officers, with assistance from the Dog Unit, commenced an extensive search to locate the man.
"About 12.50am on Wednesday, the man was found at Talong Drive, Lake Cathie, where he was allegedly armed with a branch and threatened to pull a knife on police," the spokesperson confirmed.
"He was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries."
The police spokesperson confirmed a taser was deployed.
Investigations continue.
