On Saturday, thousands of people will rally across Australia in a National Day of Action to demand more climate action and investment on a scale to match the current climate crisis.
The Hastings rally starts at 12 noon and is at Town Green, Port Macquarie.
Climate Change Hastings president, Kerri-ann Jones, spoke on behalf of an alliance of groups hosting the event, including the School Strikers, Hastings Parents for the Environment, No Electricity from Forests, Coastal Warriors Mid North Coast and Hastings Extinction Rebellion.
"The climate crisis is real. We demand leadership on climate and clean energy, for our future and our children's future. Please come and join us - people power can still save the planet," Ms Jones said.
"Everyone is welcome, bring your family and friends. This will be a peaceful, family-friendly event, with a few speeches, some live music including a singalong, and a short march. There will be banners and posters but feel free to bring your own."
Polls show most Australians want urgent action. Two thirds of Australians believe the country is facing a climate emergency and the Government should mobilise to tackle this threat to our future.
"In Australia close to 100 jurisdictions representing 8 million people - a third of the population - have declared a climate emergency. We will be calling on our council to do the same. We must all act now because we are running out of time to preserve a liveable planet", Ms Jones said.
"To meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, we must increase clean energy five times faster and cut emissions 10 times faster, each year, between now and 2050.
"Australia is a wealthy country that has polluted a lot in the past, but we have a strong capacity to cut carbon pollution and become a clean energy superpower."
