Saturday's program began with the new enticer, aimed at competitors aged 14 and up. This race was designed especially for those wanting to make a start in a triathlon.
The ever-popular Nestle Milo Mini Triathlon Series quickly followed the enticer and saw over 250 children take part in the 29th iteration of the event.
The junior race was well supported by both participants and the local Nestle company, with great giveaways and samples for all the younger triathletes.
Fortunately, the weather held off for Saturday but overnight more than 175mm of rain fell in South West Rocks. It caused water to cascade over both the run and cycle course, cutting roads and leaving hazardous debris in its wake.
The finish area went underwater and the creek broke out into Trial Bay, with logs and branches entering onto the proposed swim course.
After assessing the situation, organisers decided to call off the Sunday race for the first time in 31 years because of the unsafe conditions.
This year's event had one of the highest number of registrations in years, with over 350 competitors signed up to take part before the cancellation.
The 2020 South West Rocks Coastline Credit Union Trial Bay Triathlon will not be rescheduled, and organisers will instead look to move forward with next years event. It's currently scheduled for the second weekend in February of 2021.
The Trial Bay Triathlon Committee wish to thank all the volunteers who have worked tirelessly during the months of planning to put the triathlon on and all the sponsors for their continued support.
A big thank you also goes out to the community for their cooperation with the proposed road closures and support of the annual competition which is now endorsed as a championship event in the North Coast Triathlon Series.
