The groups walk in several locations including Port Macquarie, Laurieton, Wauchope and Gladstone - on the Macleay.
The groups are part of Health Health NSW, a non-profit charity based in the Mid-North Coast. Health Heart was established 18 months ago and now has 140 members. Its aim is to assist those who have experienced a heart event and their carers.
These walking groups meet weekly for a walk followed by a cuppa and chat. Heart Health has in excess of 100 participants "Taking their Heart for a Walk" each week. The beauty of these walks is that there is no obligation to walk any specific distance or at a particular pace.
You walk as far as you want as fast as you feel comfortable with, said a spokesperson.
"The Port Macquarie group has about 40 people walking each week and was started to help improve the health of anyone with a heart condition, their partners and anyone who enjoys walking," the spokesperson said.
"All are welcome. You don't have to have a heart condition to join us as we are committed to preventing heart issues also.
"If you would like to join us for a walk each Thursday, meet at Town Beach car park at 8.30am."
The spokesperson said the group enjoys a cuppa after each walk at the Port City Bowling Club following their walk.
