A Lake Cathie business owner has experienced a tough start to the new year after her shop was targeted in a break-in on December 30.

Wendy Dunn, owner of Lakeside Fashions said she arrived at work on Tuesday December 31 to find the shop's windows smashed and stock stolen.
"They ripped through trying to find what they wanted," she said.
Ms Dunn reported the incident to police.
The break-in is suspected to have happened overnight, as Ms Dunn closed up the premises at about 3.40pm on Monday December 30 before returning at 9.30am on Tuesday, December 31.
The damage to the shop caused its closure on Tuesday, December 31.
Ms Dunn said she has lodged an insurance claim and is hoping to reopen the shop on Thursday or Friday.
