Stage one of the Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill upgrade was officially opened on Wednesday, December 18.
The makeover delivered a wider concrete path, disability-compliant grades, upgraded stairs and seats, and a new viewing platform with sweeping coastal vistas.
The retaining walls were upgraded too.
Mayor Peta Pinson thanked everyone involved in the project.
"This is a great gift to our community right before Christmas," she said.
Cr Pinson said this was such a special part of the coastline.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said it was important to invest in community infrastructure like the Coastal Walk which everyone got to enjoy.
"One of the key features of this upgrade is about access," she said.
Port Macquarie resident Walter Stevenson was among those to give the thumbs up to the end result.
A seat dedicated to his late wife Rosetta has marked a special place on the walk for the past nine years.
"She now has a new path and a new seat and she would be so chuffed today," Mr Stevenson said.
"It's her spot."
Mr Stevenson said a lot of people used the walk and the upgrade was a great initiative.
Chris Harris from Salty Crew Kiosk said the wheelchair accessible upgrade was absolutely fantastic.
"It's really great it's ready for the holiday season for the locals and tourists," he said.
Stage two of the Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill upgrade is scheduled to start in February 2020.
The Charlie Uptin Walk to Flagstaff Hill section of the Coastal Walk is one of several upgrades as part of a $1.762 million project with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council contributing $997,000 and the state government providing $765,000.
The Doctors Walk (Oxley Beach to Windmill Hill Reserve) and Kenny Walk (Nobbys Beach to Shelly Beach) sections will also be upgraded with work starting in early 2020.
