The club collects gold coin donations from lawn bowlers who accidentally send down a bowl in the opposite direction to that which was intended. Known as a wrong bias, the wayward bowls add up over the year and, this week, the bowlers were happy to hand over the proceeds to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute.

"We've been supporting local cancer patients through the Wrong Bias charity box for at least 20 years," said club secretary Darrel Foster.

"Bowl the wrong way and it will cost a gold coin donation. We won't name names, but some bowlers are very good contributors!"

Mr Foster said the club's members were unanimous in their support of the cancer unit.

"This is a cause close to our heart," Mr Foster said.

"We've had a number of members affected by the 'Big C'. But we're also a community group at heart and we want to show other community groups, like ours, that it's possible to make a difference in the lives of local people.

"Our club does this by providing that all-important opportunity for older residents to enjoy each other's company and be active. And we can enjoy that opportunity while supporting our local cancer centre."

Nursing Unit Manager Jenny Baroutis thanked Panthers Men's Bowling Club for its ongoing support.

"When you think about the many lives that have been touched over two decades by the club and its members, you understand this is so much more than the contents of a Wrong Bias box," Ms Baroutis said.

"It's ongoing support for patients. Making sure the comfort items are there for those having chemotherapy and radiation treatment, making sure support is available for patients experiencing financial hardship and helping us to secure medical equipment that helps us to continue to provide excellent care for our patients.

"Thank you doesn't seem enough, but our team is truly grateful for the support."
