Transport for NSW director Northern Region Anna Andrews said the NSW government is providing about $1.4 million to carry out this essential maintenance work to create a stronger and longer-lasting road for residents and travellers.
"The pedestrian and landscaping component of the jointly-funded Wauchope CBD upgrade, which is being delivered by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, is nearing completion," Ms Andrews said.
"This means the essential resurfacing of Oxley Highway (High Street) can now be carried out, which will include removing and replacing the existing road surface.
"Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has also provided funding to resurface parking lanes in High Street."
Ms Andrews said the work will be carried out at night to minimise impacts for businesses and the thousands of motorists who use this busy road every day.
"While some noise is to be expected from the machinery being used to carry out this work, every effort will be made to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and the noisiest component of the work will be scheduled before 11pm," she said.
Early work is being carried out between 6pm and 5am, to remove the median on the highway (High Street) at the Beechwood Road intersection.
Major work will start on Sunday, October 13, between 6pm and 5am, and is expected to take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Work to resurface the section of highway between Beechwood Road and Hastings Street will be carried out for the first three weeks while the section between Hastings Street and the railway line will be carried out during the final week of work.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the Oxley Highway during work hours, with traffic control and a reduced speed limit in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Access to side streets within the work zone will be restricted at times and two lanes on the Oxley Highway (High Street) will be reinstated during the day.
Electronic message signs will be in place to remind motorists of the traffic restrictions, and minor delays may be experienced.
