By forcing people to wait longer before receiving social services support, the Government is all but ensuring that people doing it tough will fall into poverty. The inadequacy of Newstart payments ensures those on this payment will stay in that desperate situation, while navigating an employment market where applicants outnumber available jobs.
Raise the rate, cut the wait, and afford our fellow human beings the dignity we all deserve.
