This year's book week theme 'Reading is my Super Power' was celebrated with author and illustrator visits, school wide writing activities and culminated in the Big SCAS Read Off.
Primary School students had the opportunity to attend workshops with the likes of multiple award-winning author and illustrator Mark Wilson, Storm Boy novella illustrator Jenni Goodman and author of the Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose series, Jacqueline Harvey.
Secondary students in Years 7-11 were fortunate to receive creative writing workshops from local author Hayley Lawrence whose book Inside the Tiger was listed as one of the 2019 Children's Book Council Australia Notable Books.
An array of pop up activities was available to SCAS students throughout the fortnight including 'write around the school' sessions.
SCAS Library Manager and Book Week Coordinator, Ms Emily Barkway and her team created six thought-provoking art installations that were situated around the School as stimulus for students to create 100-word short stories.
"The whole School took on the challenge of writing 100-word stories. The students had endless amounts of creativity and enthusiasm," Ms Barkway said.
Other students took on the daring pursuit of writing an entire book in 12 hours as part of a State Wide writing competition. In teams of five to eight students composed chapters, illustrated as well as edited the books in order to produce the final product.
The week of action was drew to a close with a large finale involving the entire School and friends from Columba Cottage Early Learning Centre.
The Big SCAS Read Off saw students from Pre-School to Senior School alongside parents and friends of the community gather on the School oval to join in shared reading.
"It was fantastic to see all the School community, students and parents alike, joining together to celebrate a love of reading. It was especially heartening to see our older students sharing their favourite reads with the younger students," she said.
