Police are investigating after a pet deer was shot, skinned and decapitated in Fernbank Creek, near Port Macquarie.

The privately-owned Sambar stag was illegally hunted between midnight and 4am on a rural property on Thursday, April 25, according to a NSW Police statement.
Mid North Coast Rural Crime Prevention Team officers responded to reports of the incident, established a crime scene and are appealing for information.
A 2015 white Toyota Landcruiser with a green canopy was seen leaving the area and travelling south along the Pacific Highway towards Johns River.
Police wish to speak with the driver or occupant of the vehicle to assist with the investigation.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Police regarding the incident or suspicious activity in the Fernbank Creek area during the evening of Wednesday night and Thursday morning in late April.
