Residents and tourists flock to the foreshore to watch the night sky light up during the celebration.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has financially supported the 9pm New Year's Eve fireworks display since 2016 through its community events budget.
A report to the August council meeting said over this time, the council had collaborated with Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce which had been responsible for managing and funding the midnight fireworks.
Cr Rob Turner said the New Year's Eve 9pm fireworks was one of the biggest, busiest and most vibrant nights on the Port Macquarie calendar.
He said this council resolution made it very clear that the council supported it.
The council report said the community embraced the New Year's Eve fireworks as a family-friendly activity which encouraged and supported economic growth in the CBD.
"It is also a busy tourist season for the local businesses and this event assists in creating a vibrant and activated town centre," the report said.
The council's position on future fireworks support will be determined after proposed engagement on community events to be completed later in 2019.
Cr Turner said the council would take responsibility for the 9pm fireworks in 2019 and it was probably a good thing to investigate in future years to be more collaborative with other groups on how we spent our money on fireworks.
"This is a good solution for this year," he said.
The council report said the estimated cost to deliver the 2019 New Year's Eve 9pm fireworks was $8500 which includes the fireworks for the 9pm display, leasing cost of the barge required to deliver the event and staff management time.
