The Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor's Sporting Fund and the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise have again joined forces in 2019 to deliver the ultimate sports awards.
The awards were launched on Thursday with Heeney admitting it was "awesome" to get recognised for her feats last year.
"It was awesome to get the recognition for the hard work that you put in," she said.
"It's really good to see all the young people out there and what they've done because it's not something that's published very much so it's good to hear about everything."
The 19-year-old said she had considered a move to a United States college on a scholarship indirectly related to receiving her award 12 months ago.
"I'm thinking about going to college over in America under a running scholarship," she said.
"With the recognition of the awards it's allowed more schools to hit me up for a scholarship so that's helped me further my career in running."
This year, there are $7000 in prizes to be awarded to local athletes to help them achieve their sporting dreams.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise president, Carolyn Ireland said that last year's awards presentation ceremony was inspiring with a wide range of sports people and volunteers being nominated.
"This year we are again looking forward to encouraging and celebrating sport at all levels from our community," she said.
For the first time all nominations across all categories will automatically be entered in the Sportsperson of the Year Award.
The nomination period covers all sporting activity and achievements from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.
Nominations are now open at http://sunrise-rotary.org.au/sportsawards/ and will close at midnight on Monday, 30 September. All nominations must be submitted online.
Meanwhile, the Mayor's Sporting Fund bowls day will be held at Port City Bowling Club on September 6.
