The ongoing weed swaps have been a targeted effort to include the wider community in the vital work Landcare does to restore and preserve our local native bushland.
Landcare's Estelle Gough said the weed swapping project continues to gain momentum in the community.
"We are all very pleased that our Weed Swap on National Tree Day was so successful," Mrs Gough said.
"It was great to see so many families participating and we have a large number of interested people just dropping in when they saw our display - one all the way from Canberra."
Mrs Gough said as well as free native plants members of the community wanted to get educated about what plants should and should not go in back yards.
"People didn't just want the free plants either with many buying plants as well and making donations as they appreciated out efforts, which is great to know," she said.
"I first came up with the idea nearly a decade ago and the idea behind the swap is being able to bring the bush into urban and peri-urban areas in our local government area.
"This is exactly the kind of work that Landcare volunteers do each week but we wanted a way of extending that into the private gardens and yards in Port Macquarie."
She also said the weed swap would continue weekly at Landcare's nursery each Monday.
"Due to the success of the weed swap we have decided we are now going to hold the weed swap at the nursery every Monday morning to keep the momentum going.
"Anyone can come along and exchange weeds for three native plants at NPWS Depot 22 Blackbutt Road on a Monday morning.
"We ask that people take pictures of the weeds they have removed so we can see the great work people are doing."
