Usually more at home pounding the pavement than going through the bush, the 30-year-old found a way to the finish line in the 25-kilometre event on Sunday.

"It's a bit different to my usual afternoon run around the block, but I'm definitely keen to do more trail runs now," he said.

"When you're running on a sealed road you're checking your time all the time, but out on the trail you're just looking to get to the top of the next climb."

And there were more than a few climbs in the trail in and around Mount Cairncross.

Prince registered a more than acceptable top 10 finish and said it was up there as one of the more difficult events he's participated in.

"It's definitely tough, but very rewarding at the finish," he said.

"The climbs were brutal, but it was a great feeling when you got to the top because the views were superb and everyone out there was so supportive of one another.

"Great atmosphere."
