Did you know singing together is actually good for you?
Research has shown that people who sing together are happy and healthier than others.
Port Macquarie singing group Savvy Singers are a lively group that loves to sing together and are keen to combine learning new songs with activities designed to stimulate and engage the brain.
"Whilst we have very many able bodied singers, there are also people recovering from strokes and other illnesses who find their Monday activities stimulating and beneficial," conductor Robyn Ryan said.
"We welcome anyone who loves to sing."
Savvy Singer Denis McGrane moved to Port Macquarie four years and joined the group to meet new people.
"I'm not a great singer but I love it," Mr McGrane said.
"It is interesting, we get to meet new people, we go to different places, we join with other singing groups."
Savvy Singer Faye Davis has been involved in the Savvy Singers since its inception.
"I am a great believer in singing," she said.
"I feel as if it is a great stimulation for the brain especially as you get older.
"It is like an aerobics exercise for your brain.
"It brings you great joy.
"It also wakens all those other feelings inside you such as listening, empathy and working with others."
Savvy Singers meet each Monday at noon for one hour in the Tennyson Woods Centre, St Agnes Village Port Macquarie. The next meeting is on Monday 22nd July.
