The task force of police motorcyclists is roaming Mid-North Coast motorways until Friday afternoon, June 21 as part of Operation Impact.

During the group operation, five motorcycles and a police vehicle are assigned to the Heatherbrae to Coffs Harbour area.

Traffic Support Group Sergeant Paul Apap said the group operation is designed to enhance the profile of police and assist local officers.

"We have come up here to enhance the profile of the police on the roadways utilising the motorbikes and supplementing local road safety operations," said Sgt Apap.

"Most people have been pretty well behaved although you do get those people that choose to disrespect the rules and other road users.

"We want to work with people not against them, because in terms of road trauma, there's no winners."

Six police vehicles are also stationed in the Taree area to assist Roads, Maritime Services staff with operations focused on heavy vehicles.

"Supplementing what we are doing here, there are six vehicles operating in Taree with a main focus on heavy vehicles in conjunction with the RMS.

"We usually run these operations based on intelligence and trends.

"We go and supplement where the figures (statistics) dictate and hopefully have an impact with the resources that we have."

The Traffic Support Group motorcycles are equipped to carry Light Detection and Ranging equipment, an alcometer and check speedometer.

"The main focus here was profile, speed enforcement, alcohol and drug driving," said Sgt Apap.

"The motorbikes are good because they are a very versatile machine, you can virtually park them anywhere and you can get around anywhere.

"In terms of traffic enforcement they are a good tool in letting us get to an offending motorist quickly, efficiently and safely."
