Our community theatre group - The Players Theatre, will host its One Act Play Festival from Saturday, June 8, at 10.30am until about 1pm on Sunday, June 9, followed by the announcement and presentation of awards from 2pm.

The great thing about play festivals is you can experience a variety of genres - comedy, drama, farce, thriller - performed by different theatre companies. This year's participants are from from Ipswich, Wyong, Lithgow, Melbourne, and throughout the Mid-North Coast.
Many of the plays are unpublished, which is an indication of the hidden talent harboured by budding playwrights among us. The directors of each piece must show their versatility in keeping set decor and costumes to a minimum as well as moulding the performance to ensure it conforms to the rules.
The difficult job of adjudicator falls to Mark Lucas who has more than 35 years' experience as an actor, director and playwright. His collective works vary from side-splitting farce to thought-provoking drama, performed not only in Australia, but New Zealand and the United Kingdom. His Excalibur Theatre Company, established in 1994, is one of the premier theatre companies in south-east Queensland.
Local businesses have generously supported the festival, including major sponsor Port City Bowling Club. Awards to be presented on Sunday include $1000 for best production, $200 each for best male and female actor, $250 for best director, $100 each for best unpublished play and the adjudicator's award.
Tickets are available at the door for $10 per session or $35 for both days.
