The finished foreshore upgrade between Gordon and Hayward Streets in Port Macquarie is a welcome sight according to walkers who braved the pavement when it was opened on May 31.
The riverside walk has a new four metre shared path, wider staircase from Gordon St bridge to the foreshore pathway and improved seating.
As well as lighting, landscaping and upgrades to underground services.
Dunbogan resident James Wells said it was looking good so far.
"It's really good actually," he said.
"Heaps better than the old backtrack that was there before.
"Not half as dingy and should be good as long as it doesn't get vandalised."
The pathway also includes a tribute to the original Kooloonbung Creek Bridge with some of the stonework taken from the abutments of the original bridge.
It's believed to have been built by convicts in the early 1840s.
As part of the development demolition, minor water and sewer relocation work was needed behind the Coles building earlier this year.
"Council is committed to improving our region's public spaces, and improving connectivity in our town centres so they remain accessible and inclusive for all," said Port Macquarie-Hastings director of development and environment Melissa Watkins in December last year.
The project connects Port Macquarie's Coastal Walk and the Kooloonbung Creek Nature Reserve, and was funded by the Port Macquarie Town Centre Master Plan Committee in partnership with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
