On election day at the East Kempsey Polling Station, I was confronted by banners with images of the Independent candidate and statements I consider to be slanderous.

One statement was illustrated with a hand reaching into a pocket. It said "Rob Oakeshott's Plan His hands, your pockets". Is this legal? If it is legal and if it is not slanderous, it is highly unethical. Is this how Cowper was won?
During the last weeks before election day, similarly unethical advertising could be seen on TV and found in our letterboxes. Some of the claims published are quite ludicrous, such as accusing Oakeshott of having been paid while in office and of being "just another politician". Aren't all successful candidates politicians and aren't all of them paid by taxpayers?
I now wonder how to trust a government which has succeeded in the polls due to misrepresenting the policies of their opposition and spreading ludicrous and incorrect information about the candidates.
How can we teach our children to be truthful and upright while they witness the immoral behaviour of those who are leading the country?
