It turns out fellow judges did too.
In conditions prime for top-class bodyboarding at the club's third monthly competition, it was the performance of Shayden Schrader and Jackson Meehan that stole the show.
The open duo claimed the only 10-point rides of the day in conditions best described as "awesome".
"It was probably between three and four foot with a couple of bigger sets," Pickworth said.
"It was offshore and pumping all day so everyone had a great time."
Pickworth said it wasn't only the open division surfers who made an impression, with a couple of new faces impressing as well.
"It's good they're keen to get out there and have a go at it; some of the groms surfed out of their skin," he said.
"There were some decent waves and even the grommets were ripping up out there."
But it wasn't just about what happened out in the water with the club adding a few more strings to their bow on the sand.
The president said the main reason for that was to keep the interest flowing through their members that have been around for a while.
"We try to keep the scope of interest on the educational side of things because we introduced some scoring classes at the start of the day.
"That gives an insight to the guys into how they're scored when they're out in the water.
"There's a bit more to scoring than just drawing things on a bit of paper while you're waiting."
Attention now turns to the teams challenge in two weeks time with eight already registered, including a girls team that includes reigning Australian champion Millie Chalker.
