Experts James Carley and Nicole Larkin have been engaged to undertake the coastal engineering component of the feasibility study.
Local consultants will come on board for the other components.
The tidal pool push took a leap ahead when Prime Minister Scott Morrison, in the lead-up to the federal election, announced a re-elected Coalition government would fund a tidal pool in Port Macquarie to the tune of $4.5 million.
The Coalition has since claimed election victory.
The federal government pledge followed the state government's $50,000 grant for the feasibility study.
Port Macquarie Tidal Pool Committee chair Kathryn Butler is feeling very positive.
The tidal pool push has the support of mayor Peta Pinson, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams and Cowper MP-elect Patrick Conaghan.
"Together with Peta Pinson, Leslie Williams and Patrick Conaghan, we will definitely do our best to make this happen," Ms Butler said about the tidal pool.
"We are in a great position."
Ms Butler said there was a lot of homework to be done with the wheels grinding slowly but in the right direction.
"There hasn't been a tidal pool built in NSW in the last 50 years so it's all very new," she said.
Ms Butler said they were reinventing the wheel, so to speak, but they were in a very good position to make the tidal pool happen, especially with the federal government promise.
She said an added benefit would be the tourism magnet which a tidal pool would provide for Port Macquarie.
The committee recently met with Mrs Williams and a representative for Mr Conaghan to keep them informed.
The committee, which has 11 members with an extra space for a treasurer, is divided into four groups with responsibility for different areas.
The whole committee meets monthly, with the sub-groups meeting regularly as needed.
There will be further engagement with the community.
The push for a tidal pool in Port Macquarie started more than three years ago.
