NSW retirement village ambassador Kathryn Greiner will be in Port Macquarie to raise awareness about the changes to the retirement village laws and how the reforms can help, as well as talking about the essentials of retirement village living.
NSW Fair Trading and Ms Greiner will host two free information seminars at The Westport Club on Tuesday, May 21.
The first seminar from 10am is for prospective residents followed by a seminar for existing residents and village operators from 11am.
Registration is essential for the seminars.
People can register to attend the forums at the NSW Fair Trading website or call 13 32 20.
The seminar for prospective residents will cover topics including the different types of retirement village arrangements and contracts, common fees and charges and the Retirement Village Inquiry and reforms background.
Ms Greiner led the inquiry into NSW retirement villages in 2017, which focused on transparency, clarity and fairness.
The second seminar, beginning at 11am, will cover the Retirement Village Inquiry and reforms background, changes to retirement village laws and the role of Fair Trading and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
There are 253 retirement village providers in NSW and about 650,000 people living in retirement villages.
The Mid-North Coast has a high proportion of retirement village residents.
