The grant program is a funding initiative of the Mid North Coast Local Health District and is overseen by the Healthy Communities Mid North Coast Committee. The grants aim to support people to be healthy through preventive health projects focusing on healthy eating and active living.
Coordinator of the Healthy Communities Mid North Coast Committee Amy Sawyer said communities are the experts when it comes to knowing what they need to do to improve their own health.
"Round one of the grant program saw 39 successful projects implemented from Laurieton right up to Woolgoolga," Ms Sawyer said.
"The projects varied from supporting pre-schoolers' access to healthy food right through to a senior's dancing program."
"We were so impressed by the variety and quality of the projects submitted in round one, that we wanted to fund more community projects through a second grant round soon as possible," Ms Sawyer said.
"Round two projects can address other issues that contribute to health, such as social inclusion or smoking, as long as the project also focuses on the two key areas of healthy eating or active living."
"The target groups for the projects should be children, young people, healthy middle years, healthy ageing, Aboriginal communities or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities."
