The prize, of course, is the Group 3 first grade premiership and after a slow start to the competition, the Breakers need a win.
They will look to snap a two-game losing sequence when they host premiership favourites Macleay Valley on Sunday.
"A few blokes by their own admission are not playing as well as they can," Kemp said.
Kemp knows his team have to "find a way" to win, but patches of their last two defeats have given him plenty of cause for optimism.
"Two weeks in a row we've won the opening 20 minutes, we just haven't got across the line," he said.
"But it'll turn; we're confident it'll turn. All we need are one or two things to bounce our way and we'll be away."
The Mustangs are taking their clash with the Breakers this Saturday as "just another game" despite the majority of the Macleay Valley players having ties to the Port City club.
Mustangs coach Russell Lardner claims his side will be focused on their job and not who they are lining up against.
"It's just another game, there's no extra importance placed on this one because it's against the Breakers," Lardner said.
"We are still good mates with a lot of the players in the team and there is no rivalry between us at all."
Lardner had high praise for the Breakers' president and coach, who have both reached out to offer their support of the Mustangs, who were close to breaking point throughout the 2018 season.
"They had a lot to do with us and helped us fix our situation over here," Lardner said.
"They have shown a lot of support and told me if I ever need anything then they will do their best to help."
The Mustangs' resurgence has been remarkable, as they won their first three games of the season by double digit margins before their narrow 24-22 defeat to the Wingham Tigers last Saturday.
Macleay Valley were without a win when they withdrew from senior competition halfway through 2018.
The Mustangs could be forced to make changes to their line up, as Lardner is battling an illness while numerous other players have niggling injuries.
Five-eighth Stephan Blair is also set to make his return after he has served his three game suspension.
"We might have to make some changes because of minor injuries but we will know more closer to Sunday," Lardner said.
"Stephan coming back is a big boost but I am still deciding where I will slot him into the side. Josef Barber has done an admirable job as his replacement, especially against the Sharks."
The first grade clash kicks off at Port Macquarie on Sunday at 3pm.
