Others chose to simply browse through the vast array of books on offer at the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie's Giant Book Sale.
The event runs through to Sunday, April 7 at Panthers Port Macquarie.
The Giant Book Sale is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie.
Giant Book Sale coordinator Bob Cleland said the event was going brilliantly.
He said at least 30 people queued to the outer doors at Panthers Port Macquarie waiting for the doors to open on day one so organisers opened the book sale five minutes early.
"There has been a strong flow of people," Mr Cleland said.
"We have a massive number of books covering so many different genres."
Marlene and David Sutherland support the book sale every year.
"They have such a good variety and you can see the authors that you like," Mrs Sutherland said.
"We read a lot."
More than 30,000 books are on offer at the book sale over the three days with genres ranging from novels to biography, Australiana, self-help, true crime, children's books and cookbooks.
The book sale runs from 9am to 6pm on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, and 9am to 1pm on Sunday, April 7 at Panthers Port Macquarie.
