Port Macquarie waters have seen four rescues in one day recently and about a third of skippers failing to log in their planned return time, according to Marine Rescue unit commander Greg Davies.
"Obviously Easter is quite busy with a number of tourists in town," he said.
"We encourage everyone to be kind, courteous and respect each other's space and the speed limits of the waterways."
Mr Davies said if the weather was favourable there could be as many as 70 boats in the water on March 30 and 31.
"This weekend should be pretty calm (and there may be more boats than normal)," he said.
"Last weekend we had over 60 vessels and at least a third on top of that did not log on to report their details.
"If people haven't log in with us over the radio and they go missing, we won't know when they are supposed to be back and we don't know where to look for them.
"It's important to log on to channel 16 and give a time that you are coming back."
Mr Davies said new boat owners could drop by the group's Buller Street boat shed for advice about sand bars, safety and services.
"Remember boats breakdowns can happen at anytime so always wear a life jacket and check the weather."
