The region's own tumbling head coach at First State Allstars is gearing up for the monumental adventure and his first overseas competition in Orlando, Florida during April.
The championships are considered the Olympics of the sport and Australia enters several cheerleading and dance crews up against as many as 96 other teams. The competition runs from April 24 to 26 at Walt Disney World Resort.
The 21-year-old cheerleading dynamo was selected for the tournament by the Newcastle and Sydney based East Coast All Stars world team during try-outs held in November last year.
"I'll be performing stunting, pyramid, dance and jumps as an athlete," he said.
"I can't put it into words because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"When I was chosen for the East Coast All Stars try-outs in mid-November I was really shocked.
"Other athletes had known each other for years but no-one knew who I was.
"I think I was just that kid from Port Macquarie."
In between teaching the sport in town, Jakob has been putting in hours travelling every second Friday to train in Newcastle and every other Sunday to train in Sydney.
There are sure to be more long days ahead as his team trains twice daily for a total of eight hours in preparation for the competition.
"I want to compete and love doing what I do to get better and stronger," he said.
"I just want to experience the atmosphere, to see other athletes and have the opportunity to bring back a world ring."
East Coast All Stars athletes have represented at the World Championships in 2011, 2013 and 2015, have made finals all three times and some of their members hold the Guiness World Record for the highest basket toss.
Jakob will also be attending the Cheercon World Showcase in April 13 in Sydney before heading overseas.
