Emergency services were called to the fire at an outbuilding on William Street, finding the structure well alight at around 6pm on March 20.
Residents used garden hoses to assist firefighters in quickly extinguishing the blaze before it could spread to adjoining units.
One unit was left with moderate fire damage to an exterior asbestos wall and eaves.
Port Macquarie Police chief inspector Mick Aldridge said the cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
"Initially there was smoke seen coming from the building and a disused detached toilet (used for storage)," he said.
"The detached structure was completely destroyed.
"Detectives are looking at all avenues and can not rule out it may have been deliberately lit."
HAZMAT crews also attended to treat exposed asbestos and cordoned off the area with tape.
