Camden Haven Marine Rescue were busy practicing their techniques at sea around 9.30am on Tuesday, March 19 when they received a call from a broken down vessel.
Unit commander Ken Rutledge said the timing was extraordinary with crews already out on fairly calm seas.
"Crews received a call from a four or five metre runabout with one person on board," he said.
"The team was out at training, having taken the boat out to do some drills as part of regular training.
"It was broken down at Perpendicular Point and was towed back to North Haven boat ramp."
Mr Rutledge said it was important for boaties to carry safety gear, as well as log on and off.
"It's important for skippers to have safety gear and and this particular one was logged on," he said.
"Make sure you've logged on and logged off when you come back."
Camden Haven volunteers are expected to complete more sessions at night on March 20.
