Paramedics were called to Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island on Monday morning to treat a man in his 20s who was critically injured in the surf.
A spokesman for Queensland Ambulance Service said they did not have information about the circumstances leading up to the incident, but said he had drowned at a beach.
A hazardous surf warning caused by the storm remains in place for that area, and meteorologists say waters are still dangerous.
Oma has weakened into a low pressure system about 1450km northeast of Brisbane late on Monday, tracking in a north-northeastly direction.
